The Kogi State commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari has cleared the air on why policemen barricaded the house of the former deputy governor of the State Elder, Simon Achuba, following his impeachment.

KanyiDaily had reported that Simon Achuba was impeached over alleged gross misconduct by members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital.

Immediately after Achuba’s impeachment, security men in there numbers and fully armed stormed his residence in Lokoja, thus, preventing him from going out or allowing any one to come in.

However, during an interview with newsmen on Saturday, CP Busari debunked the report that the impeached deputy governor has been put under house arrest, stressing that, the presence of security personnel in the official residence of the Deputy Governor was to prevent looting of government property.

According to him, this followed an advice given to Achuba to relocate from the official residence of the deputy governor since he is no longer entitled to stay there.

Busari said that the security personnel at the gate would be there until he finally moves out of the house.

Meanwhile, the swearing-in of Edward Onoja as the new deputy governor of Kogi state has been postponed to Monday, October 21, a report by The Nation claims.

The swearing-in was reportedly earlier scheduled for Saturday, October 21, following the impeachment of Simon Achuba as Governor Yahaya Bello’s deputy by the state House of Assembly.

The newspaper reports that the swearing-in will hold on Monday when the state assembly screens and confirms Onoja as the new deputy governor.

Onoja, after the confirmation, will proceed to the Lugard House where the oath of office will be administered to him by the chief judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah.

Onoja is the running mate to Governor Bello in the forthcoming November 16 governorship election in Kogi state.
