President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that citizens of all African countries can now enter Nigeria without a visa, starting from January 2020.

President Buhari made this announcement in Egypt at the ongoing Aswan Forum designed to set “An Agenda for Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa.”

In a tweet on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, Somalian Minister, Ambassador Ahmed Awad commended Buhari for the viva waiver which he described as an exemplary decision. He wrote:

“I wish to profoundly commend President @MBuhari of #Nigeria who just announced at the Aswan Forum complete visa exemption for all Africans.

“Starting January 2020, Africans will be able to arrive in Nigeria without visas.

“It’s such an exemplary decision. Thanks your Excellency.”

KanyiDaily had reported that President Buhari departed Abuja for Egypt to attend the Aswan Forum, which holds from December 11 to 12th.

The event is to address the interconnections between peace and development on the continent while promoting Africa-led solutions through strengthening of policies and practices.
