The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday, declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of salaries of lecturers not enrolled in the Federal Government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

The President of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who disclosed this on Monday while addressing journalists in Abuja, said the strike action takes effect from March 23, 2020.

KanyiDaily recalls that ASSU had on 9th March declared a two week warning strike which elapsed Monday 23 March.

The FG had declared the two-week warning strike embarked upon by ASUU as illegal and an act of corruption.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige accused ASUU of not following laid down procedures before embarking on the industrial action.

Ngige said the varsity lecturers did not give the government the “mandatory notice” required of a union before proceeding on the strike.
