Gianna Floyd, the 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd, has been offered a full scholarship to Texas Southern University (TSU), according to a Facebook post by the school on Wednesday.
TSU’s board of offered Gianna the opportunity the same day Floyd was buried in Houston as protests sparked by his death continue.
In a press release on their Facebook page, the Board of Regents of TSU revealed that they “had approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Gianna Floyd if she wishes to attend the University.”
The board said the scholarship was a way for them to “honor the memory of George Floyd on the day that he is laid to eternal rest,” and ensure that Gianna has a secure future.

George Floyd is 46-year-old black man who died on May 25, 2020, after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinned him to the ground by pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes as the black man repeatedly said, “I can’t breathe.”
Floyd’s death set off worldwide protests with a call for an end to police violence against black citizens and for justice to be duly served to the four former Minneapolis officers involved in killing the 46-year-old man.
Chauvin, who is facing charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death, has his bail set at $1.25m in first court appearance.
The other three officers involved in his death, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J Alexander Kueng have all been charged with aiding and abetting in the crime.
Floyd’s funeral was filled with family members, other families who lost loved ones to police violence, and public figures. They called for racial justice and honored his life.
