Thomas Lane: Police Officer Involved In George Floyd’s Death, Has Been Released On $750,000 Bail

One of the police officers charged for George Floyd’s death, Thomas Lane, has been freed.

Thomas Lane, one of the four police officers charged over the death of George Floyd has been released from prison after paying a $750,000 (around £591,000) cash bail.

The 37-year-old former Minneapolis police officer was freed from Hennepin County jail on Wednesday night, sheriff’s office records showed.

Floyd’s death set off worldwide protests with a call for an end to police violence against black citizens and for justice to be served to the four former Minneapolis officers involved in killing the 46-year-old black man.

Thomas Lane, who was released yesterday after posting bail of $750,000, was one of the three police officers charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death.

The fourth officer, Derek Chauvin, who was filmed pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He has his bail set at $1.25m in first court appearance.

The other two officers charged with aiding and abetting in the crime, Tou Thao and J Alexander Kueng, are still in jail.

Meanwhile, George Floyd has been buried on Tuesday in a memorable funeral filled with family members, public figures and people who lost loved ones to police violence. They called for racial justice and honored his life.
