President Donald Trump Impeached For Second Time Over ‘Incitement Of Insurrection’

President of the United States, Donald Trump, has been impeached for the second time by the House of Representatives over “incitement of insurrection”, making him the first president in US history to be impeached twice.

The House charged Trump with “incitement of insurrection” for his role in the violent riot by a pro-Trump mob in the U.S. Capitol that left five people dead and terrorized lawmakers as they sought to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

The impeachment vote passed the Democratic-controlled House by 232-197, with 10 Trump’s fellow Republicans voting against him on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Since impeachment is only a charge of committing crimes, he will now face trial in the senate which has the power to convict or remove him from office and potentially bar him from ever running for any federal office again.

But unlike the house which is dominated by Democrats, the senate is under the control of Trump’s fellow Republicans until a new Congress is inaugurated.

Therefore, the chances of getting two-thirds majority in the senate to convict Trump are thought to be slim, at least for now untill January 20 when Joe Biden is sworn in.

Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said that the trial would begin after the Senate reconvenes on Tuesday, just one day before Biden is sworn into office, and that it would not conclude until Trump was out of office.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Trump was first impeached in December 2019, on charges that he abused the power of his office for domestic political advantage and subsequently obstructed Congress’ abilities to hold him accountable.
