KanyiDaily recalls that Ndubueze was seen in a viral video bleeding heavily after she was shot in her mouth by Sergeant Aiwansoba whom she had broken up with.

While the Sergeant fled the scene after the act, passersby rescued the bleeding lady and took her to a private hospital in Ikeja, where she received treatment.

Joy Eze told police officers that she was in a relationship with Aiwansone, and they were having an argument at the bus stop before the Sergeant shot her in the mouth with his gun and immediately fled the scene on October 8, 2020.

The Sergeant, who had been on the run, was however arrested by his elder brother who is an Inspector of police in Lagos and handed him over to the command.

In a statement on Monday, April 12, 2021, the command spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced Aiwansoba’s dismissal, adding that he had been charged with murder and arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Yaba.

“The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed and is prosecuting one Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba attached to the Special Protection Unit, Base 16, Ikeja, for firing and attempting to kill his lady friend, Joy Ndubueze, on October 8, 2020, on Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos State.

“The incident was referred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Lagos State Police Command for investigation, where it was revealed that the ex-policeman had a case to answer.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the orderly room trial of the suspect and he was found guilty and recommended for dismissal. The approval for his dismissal was contained in a letter numbered PC. 458465/LS/DFA/2, dated February 2, 2021.

“After his dismissal, ex-Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba was transferred to the SCIID for prosecution via letter numbered AR:3100/LS/SPM/Vol.2/311 dated February 3, 2021. The SCIID had written a letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State, for legal advice, which was eventually replied, noting that the sergeant should be charged for attempted murder contrary to Section 230, Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

“The ex-sergeant was charged before the Magistrates’ Court in Yaba on February 9, 2021, with the attempted murder of Joy Ndubueze, and the case is still on. The CP, therefore, assured the general public that no errant police personnel would go unpunished as the command would not condone any act of criminality and unprofessionalism in all areas.”

KanyiDaily had also reported how an Okada rider was shot dead by the police for refusing to pay N50 bribe in place of his offence of not wearing a facemask at a checkpoint in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
