Doyin Okupe Withdraw As Peter Obi’s Running Mate
KanyiDaily recalls that in June, Okupe had announced that he will be ‘standing in’ as the running mate of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra and the presidential candidate of the party.
He will be standing in as the VP candidate in order to meet up with the June 17 deadline issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for parties to submit the list of their candidates for the 2023 general polls.
However, in post on his Twitter page on Thursday, the former presidential spokesperson said a letter of his withdrawal has been sent to the INEC, adding that his replacement will be announced by the party’s national chairman soon.
Okupe wrote, “This afternoon, I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.”
“A replacement will be announced by [the] national chairman of [the] party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP.”
