In a bid to allay negative narratives, Paul Ibe, Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has announced that his principal has traveled to Europe this afternoon, September 16.
Ibe, in a statement issued on Friday, said Atiku is embarking on the trip for a business.
It is understood that previous trips by the PDP presidential candidate within the year had stirred pockets of debates regarding his strategy, physical wellbeing and the PDP’s place in the race to 2023.
Ibe in the statement, disclosed that Atiku will be travelling immediately after his meeting on Friday in Lagos, with the leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) alongside the PDP vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta.
Today’s trip, Ibe said is in continuation of an earlier business trip of 3 weeks ago.
The spokesman added that at the conclusion of his European trip, the former Vice president will also use the opportunity to visit his family in Dubai.
He stressed that Atiku’s trip is for business and family purposes and has nothing to do with medicals as have being insinuated in some quarters.
In other news, Kanyi Daily had reported that Atiku said the only way the national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu can be removed is when the party’s constitution is amended.
He stated this against the backdrop of several calls for the resignation of Ayu on the grounds that the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman can not come from the same region.
Atiku hails from Adamawa (North-East) while Ayu hails from Benue (North-Central).
