The Super Eagles were previously ranked 35th in the world but have now dropped five places to 40th in April’s FIFA rankings released on Thursday.
Nigeria are still ahead of their arch-rivals Ghana and Cameroon, despite dropping to sixth position in Africa with Egypt and Algeria overtaking them.
The Black Stars of Ghana are ranked 60th in the world and 11th in Africa, while Cameroon are ranked 42nd and seventh in Africa.
Morocco are still Africa’s number one nation, sitting in 11th position in the World. Senegal sit second and 18th in the world, while Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt round up the top five.
In the general ranking, Argentina overtook Brazil as the number one nation in the world.
France are second, with Brazil in third. Belgium, England, the Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Spain round up the top ten.
The next men’s FIFA rankings will be released on July 20, 2023.
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, the Super Falcons of Nigeria remain the number one nation in Africa and the 42nd-best team in the world.
Despite finishing fourth in the most recent Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, Nigeria remain the highest-ranked African country in the World.
Thanks to their 42nd-place rank, they are currently above South Africa (54th), who are the reigning African Champions, Morocco (73rd), who finished as runners-up at the 2022 AFWCON, and Zambia (77th), who finished third.
