Reactions have continued to trail the claim by Igbo students in Sudan that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has shown bias in the evacuation of Nigerians from the war-torn country.

Igbos in Sudan

A video that has gone viral on social media showed some stranded Igbo students with their luggages, accusing the federal government of discrimination in the evacuation process.

In the video, a narrator claimed that he boarded one of the evacuation buses on Saturday but was ordered to come down.

He, therefore, sought help from prominent Igbo personalities for their evacuation.

He said: “This appeal goes to Igbos. We are right here at the University of Khartoum in Sudan. They said they are doing an evacuation project in which Nigerians are to be evacuated out of Sudan. They came and carried some people and then abandoned us Igbos. We boarded the last bus that moved some Nigerians to Egypt, which left two days ago but we were asked to move out of the bus. Everything is now politics.

“We are pleading with our Igbo people who can help us. Our brother Air Peace who brought Airplane to help evacuate Nigerians might be feeling that everything is moving on fine. Let them know that things are not going fine. See our bags here. This is where we are. Somehow, news has spread that we have been evacuated but that’s not true.

“We plead with people like Prince Arthur Eze, Obi Cubana, and all those that can help us out.”

The video has since, drawn the ire of many Nigerians, most Igbos who condemned the development on their respective Twitter handles.

They also demanded an explanation from the Nigerian authorities.

Others appear to mock to mock Igbos, citing Biafra.

Below are some of the reactions on the micro-blogging app.

“What!!!!!! This can’t be true! I refuse to believe this! No, as Yoruba people would say, ” tabaja, bi ti kaaku ko”. can you please confirm this ma? Thank you.”

“Why should evacuation be made based on state of Origin if not for discrimination?
All of them will land in either Abuja, or Lagos abi, and from there to their various states.
So, what’s the point of evacuating based on state of Origin?
I need an answer, Nigerian Government.”

“Igbo leaders in leadership are ‘sell out’! In as much tribalism is considered to be unhealthy, it’s apparent every region is taking care of its own. Sadly, it’s what it is – the country is divided along ethnic lines. How the Igbos are being treated is terribly unfair.”
