The government had initiated the distribution of relief packages, consisting of two bags of 7.5kg rice and ₦5,000 each, to students across tertiary institutions in the state.
However, chaos erupted at NSUK’s convocation square, the designated distribution point, when students clamored to collect their share of the palliatives.
In the ensuing commotion, some students forcefully entered the premises where the relief items were stored, resulting in a chaotic rush.
Tragically, the situation escalated into a stampede, with students jostling and trampling over one another in a desperate attempt to secure their share of the relief materials.
Regrettably, the stampede claimed the lives of two students from the university, casting a pall of sorrow over the campus community.
KanyiDaily had also reported how at least 78 people were killed in a stampede at a Radaman charity event in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
