Ride-hailing giant Uber has introduced a new feature called ”Uber Store Pickup”, designed to offer consumers a more convenient and efficient way to receive or send parcels and purchased items.
Leveraging Uber’s existing Courier service, formerly known as Uber Package, the Store Pickup feature is geared toward simplifying same-day deliveries. Consumers can now book a driver to collect prepaid items from their preferred stores and have them delivered to a location of their choice.
According to Tope Akinwumi, Country Manager for Uber Nigeria, the introduction of Store Pickup is a response to the evolving needs of customers, especially during the busy festive season.
”We aim to stay close to the evolving needs of our consumer base and the introduction of Store Pickups with Courier demonstrates this understanding. With Courier, one can send or receive items and also have purchased items picked up in-store, providing convenience for consumers and allowing them to spend more time with loved ones this festive season”.
To use the Store Pickup service, customers can upload a photo of their receipt and provide specific instructions on where and how the items should be picked up. Additionally, drivers are equipped to interact with the store on behalf of the customer, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience.
The process is simple: consumers prepare their items for pickup, select “Courier” in the Uber app, choose whether they want to send or receive items, input the pickup and delivery addresses, and review the terms and conditions. Once the request is confirmed, users can track the delivery in real time.
Uber has emphasized safety as a core element of its services, and Store Pickup is no exception. The service includes Live Tracking, which lets users monitor the entire journey of their items, and PIN Verification, a unique PIN used by the delivery person to ensure that the correct item is collected or delivered.
Currently, Uber Store Pickup is available in Lagos, with plans for further expansion in other states.
This launch marks another step in Uber’s efforts to cater to the needs of its users, providing seamless and reliable delivery solutions for the increasingly busy and fast-paced lifestyles of consumers.
