The shrine was reportedly operated by a self-proclaimed native doctor, Ekene Igboegbueze, who allegedly promised people wealth through supernatural means.
Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, led a security operation known as “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” to shut down the shrine.
He stated that the government took action after receiving numerous complaints from Okija residents about Igboegbueze’s illegal activities.
A viral online video showed the suspect admitting to performing rituals known as Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele, all of which violate Anambra State’s Homeland Security Laws.
Emeakayi further revealed that the government has confiscated all properties acquired by Igboegbueze through these unlawful practices.
Meanwhile, items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will guide further government action against him.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for the Agunechemba Security Outfit, condemned the rise of fraudulent native doctors and self-proclaimed pastors who exploit people’s desperation for wealth.
He warned young people against falling for such scams, emphasizing that these practices only encourage a dangerous get-rich-quick mentality in society.
KanyiDaily recalls that Anambra native doctor, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki was also taken into custody as authorities investigate claims that he conducts money rituals for his clients.
