Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of two female student hostels located in Hotoro and along UDB Road in Kano.
The school cited safety concerns and violations of its code of conduct as reasons for the decision.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, the university’s Vice President of Campus Life.
According to him, the hostels run by Al-Ansar Indabo no longer meet the university’s standards for student accommodation.
Dr. Garba said the hostels had been involved in several issues, including reports of immoral activities, lack of basic amenities like water and electricity, cases of student violence, late-night movement, and the presence of unidentified tenants sharing space with students.
“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” he stated.
The university has now revoked its approval for the use of the two hostels and asked all students living there to move out after finishing their current semester exams.
Garba said the students have also been warned not to return to or associate with the hostels going forward.
“Management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive,” the statement added.
Parents and students who need help finding alternative, approved accommodations have been asked to reach out to the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life – [email protected].
The university added that it won’t be held responsible for any issues that arise if students ignore the directive.
