President Bola Tinubu has announced that he will be visiting Benue State on Wednesday, following the recent wave of killings allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The President made the announcement on Monday while commissioning parts of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network in the Federal Capital City.

He expressed his condolences to the people of Benue and urged them to remain peaceful despite the growing tensions.

Tinubu added that he would rearrange his schedule to make the trip to Benue on Wednesday.

“While I sympathise with the Benue people, I have spoken to the governor, the leadership and people of Benue to accept our condolences and try hard, very consciously, to maintain peace and harmony among themselves.

“I have always said we are one single, huge family living in the same house, say in different rooms but living together in harmony which should be the result of our diversity for prosperity. We should be able to manage our anger and frustrations.

“I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday,” the president said.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the planned visit in a statement on Monday.

According to him, Tinubu’s visit is aimed at seeing the situation for himself and engaging with those affected by the crisis, which has led to numerous deaths and widespread destruction.

“The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction,” Onanuga stated.

Tinubu had initially been scheduled to travel to Kaduna on Wednesday to commission various state projects, but that visit has now been moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025.

While in Benue, the President will hold a town hall meeting with various stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, community elders, and youth representatives.

“In preparation for the visit, President Tinubu has already dispatched the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees to Benue State.

“The President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with all stakeholders during the visit,” the statement read.

The President had earlier condemned the continuous attacks and urged everyone in Benue to embrace peace and show compassion for one another.

He also extended his condolences to families who have lost loved ones in the conflict.

KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face, had called for urgent action to stop the bloodshed in Benue State following a recent attack that left hundreds dead.
