A newly recruited soldier, Dauda Dedan, has been accused of fatally stabbing a police constable, Aaron John, in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The incident, which took place around 9 p.m. on Monday in the Mayo-Goyi area of Jalingo, was confirmed to newsmen by the Taraba State Police spokesperson, James Lashen.
According to him, Constable John had responded to a distress call from residents about a dispute involving the soldier.
Lashen said while trying to intervene, the situation escalated and the soldier allegedly stabbed him during the confrontation.
He noted that the suspect, Dedan, is currently on the run, but the Nigerian Army has already launched an investigation and is working closely with the police to track him down.
““We have reported the matter to 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and we have been given full assurances of tracking down the fugitive soldier to face the full wrath of the law.
“Both the army and the police are working hand in hand. We have gotten to the house of the soldier, we would ensure he is arrested and is brought to book accordingly,” he said.
Lashen also emphasized that the police and army are cooperating fully on the matter and that the relationship between both agencies remains strong.
