American rapper Nicki Minaj claims that Christians in Nigeria “are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed”.

Nicki Minaj stated this on Tuesday during a United Nations event hosted by United States Ambassador, Mike Waltz.

The rapper was invited to discuss the measures the US government is taking to protect religious freedoms around the world.

She thanked President Donald Trump for prioritizing the issue and pushing for international action to protect Christians in Nigeria, address extremism, and stop violence against those simply seeking to practice their faith.

Speaking about the situation, Nicki Minaj noted that Christian communities in parts of Nigeria are being forced to leave their homes and emphasized that no one should feel unsafe because of their beliefs.

She said, “I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria and to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to express their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.

“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray.”

Referencing her global travels, the rapper said she has seen how deeply religion influences cultures and communities, adding that faith is under threat in too many places, including Nigeria.

She stressed that respect does not require sharing the same beliefs and that no one should feel less safe because of their faith.

“We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. That shouldn’t make one person feel less safe than anyone in any room,” she said.

She described protecting Christians in Nigeria as a matter of uniting humanity rather than taking sides, and said attacks on any place of worship, whether church or mosque, should concern the world.

“I want to be clear, protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity.”

Continuing her remarks, she added: “I want to make it clear once again, this isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for my entire career and I will continue to stand for that for the rest of my life.”

Nicki Minaj called for global solidarity to ensure everyone can freely practice their religion and live in safety.

“When one’s church, mosque, or place of worship is destroyed, everyone’s heart should break just a little bit,” she said.

“I hope it will encourage deepened solidarity for us to urgently work together to ensure every person can enjoy the right to believe, to worship, and to live in peace.”

Her comments came after President Donald Trump added Nigeria to the US list of Countries of Particular Concern, warning that continued attacks on Christians could lead to the suspension of aid and potential military intervention.
