Several women were reportedly sexually assaulted by groups of men during an incident described as a “raping festival” in Ozoro, Delta State.

According to reports, the community observes a yearly event in March during which women are expected to stay indoors.

It is alleged that any woman seen outside during this period is targeted by men taking part in the activity.

Videos shared online show young men chasing women on the streets, tearing their clothes, and assaulting them on Thursday, March 19.

Some victims were seen crying and calling for help as the attacks happened.

There are also claims that a number of the women were raped during the incident.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the police are aware of the situation and have started making arrests.

According to LIB, Edafe said that an official statement will be released soon.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the attacks and calling for justice.
