Russia To Direct Women Who Don’t Want Children To Psychologists

Russian Government plans to send women who don’t want children to see psychologists.

This is part of new health rules aimed at tackling the country’s falling birth rate.

The issue has been a major concern for President Vladimir Putin, especially as the population continues to shrink.

The situation has worsened in recent years, with many young men sent to fight in Ukraine.

Under the new reproductive health guidelines from the health ministry, doctors will ask women how many children they hope to have.

If a woman says she wants none, “it is recommended to send the patient to a consultation with a medical psychologist with the goal of forming a positive attitude towards having children.”

Although the policy was approved in late February, it only recently gained attention in state media.

The Kremlin has described the declining population as a serious national issue.

In 2024, Putin warned that Russia could face “extinction” if birth rates do not improve.

Currently, Russia’s birth rate is about 1.4 children per woman, which is far below the 2.1 needed to maintain a stable population.

In response, the government has introduced stricter abortion rules and laws banning what it calls “child-free propaganda.”

At the same time, families with many children are being praised and supported with financial help and social benefits from the state.
