The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) has rejected the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hand the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Senegal football team said it will take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

CAF’s Appeal Board ruled on Tuesday that Senegal had forfeited the final, awarding a 3-0 win to the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

CAF maintained that the match was forfeited by Senegal, with a new result recorded as 3-0 in favour of Morocco.

The ruling came after a tense incident in Rabat, where Senegal’s players briefly left the pitch in protest following a disallowed goal and a disputed penalty call.

In its response, the FSF said it had received and reviewed the decision issued by CAF’s Appeal Committee in case DC23316.

“The Senegalese Football Federation has today taken note of the notification of the decision rendered on March 17, 2026,” the federation said.

The federation explained that CAF sided with Morocco’s complaint and reversed an earlier disciplinary decision based on procedural issues, particularly the right to be heard.

“The Appeals Board declared the appeal admissible and overturned the Disciplinary Board decision over the right to be heard,” the FSF said.

The FSF added that CAF found Senegal in breach of Articles 82 and 84, which led to the forfeiture of the match and the 3-0 result awarded to Morocco.

“CAF declared that the FSF violated Article 82 and awarded the match 3-0 to Morocco,” it said.

However, the Senegalese federation criticised the decision, calling it unfair and harmful to the image of African football.

“The Senegalese Football Federation denounces an unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable decision,” it said.

The FSF also confirmed plans to challenge the outcome at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a bid to defend its position.

“To defend its rights, the Federation will initiate an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” it added.

The federation said it remains committed to transparency and will continue to update the public as the case develops.
