Mohbad’s Father Pleads For DNA Test To Know Liam’s Paternity Before Burying Son

Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the international community for help in carrying out a DNA test involving his grandson, Liam.

Almost three years after Mohbad’s death, the singer’s body is still in the morgue, as his burial has remained on hold because of the unresolved paternity dispute surrounding the child.

Although the court had earlier ordered the collection of DNA samples, the process has yet to move forward due to repeated setbacks linked to laboratory arrangements and other logistical issues overseas.

The disagreement between Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, and the late singer’s family over Liam’s paternity has continued to fuel the legal battle, preventing the burial from taking place since September 2023.

In a new video shared on social media, Joseph Aloba described the delay as deeply painful, saying his biggest fear is that once his son is buried, it may become impossible to settle the question of whether Liam is truly his grandson.

He made an emotional appeal for support, saying he has been trying to reach President Tinubu because he wants the DNA test completed before finally laying his son to rest.

Mohbad’s father said, “I’m pleading with the entire world, not just Lagos state government, for help. I’ve been trying to reach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I need to conduct a DNA test so I can finally lay my son to rest.

“It’s heartbreaking enough that he died at a very young age, and now it’s taking too long to bury him. However, if I bury him now, how will I do the DNA test? Who will I test? Please, I want to do the DNA test to be sure his Liam is truly my grandchild.”

Mohbad’s father accused Lagos State authorities of frustrating the process, revealing that certain officials handling welfare and court-related arrangements allegedly selected unsuitable hospitals, which further delayed the test.

He added that once justice is achieved for his late son, he plans to return to his home state, Ekiti State, saying he no longer intends to remain in Lagos.

“I pray I don’t regret coming to Lagos state. In fact, I’ll be going back to my state of origin, Ekiti state, as soon as I get justice for my son, Mohbad, Joseph Aloba said.

“I don’t understand why Lagos state is deliberately delaying the DNA process, just to punish me over my son. Imagine a welfare officer who is just like a secretary to the judge went ahead to pick fake hospitals for DNA just to frustrate the process. He supposed to be punished for that.”

KanyiDaily recalls that the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu ordered DNA tests to be carried out on Liam Aloba, following an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who requested a paternity test for his grandson.
