Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde Names Bimbo Adekanmbi As Preferred Successor

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has named Bimbo Adekanmbi as the person he would like to succeed him in 2027 election.

Speculations about Makinde possibly supporting Adekanmbi had been making the rounds for weeks.

The rumours intensified on May 14 after the governor announced plans to run for president in the 2027 election.

Both men were recently seen together at a large rally in Ibadan, organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), where they sat side by side with party leaders.

The speculation was confirmed on Thursday during Adekanmbi’s unveiling as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate, where Makinde openly declared his support.

Addressing the crowd, the governor thanked supporters for standing by his administration and spoke about extending his policies beyond the state.

“I am here to tell you all two things. First, I want to thank you for your support towards this administration and also for the current political arrangement in Oyo state, which will also go national very soon.

“You have tasted Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0. Is it sweet, or not? This is Omituntun 3.0,” the governor said as he and Adekanmbi raised their APM caps as supporters cheered.

Makinde also advised Adekanmbi to lead in his own way rather than carry over past political battles.

I have told Bimbo, don’t inherit my enemies; chart your own path. I’m only human, and I make mistakes, just like everyone else,” Makinde said.

“He should improve on the good things we have done for the benefit of the people of Oyo state.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Seyi Makinde recently declared his intention to run for president in the 2027 general election.
