According to the documents published by the journalist, the Nigerian president, through the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, approved N1,145,000,000 for the purchase of 10 Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicles, for government officials in the Republic of Niger.

The documents also revealed that the contract was awarded to one Messrs Kaura Motors Nigeria Limited and approved by President Buhari on February 25, 2022.

A closer observation of the received paper uncovered Buhari had on the 2nd January of this year ordered the office of the accountant general to release the money to KAURA MOTORS NIG. LIMITED for the supply of 10 Toyota vehicles and handed to the Nigerian President.

The document read: “BEING RELEASE OF FUND IN THE SUM OF N1,145,000,000.00 TO THE OFFICE OF THE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION IFO KAURA MOTORS NIG. LIMITED FOR SUPPLY OF TEN (10) NUMBERS TOYOTA LAND CRUISER V8 VEHICLES TO REPUBLIC OF NIGER VIDE MR. PRESIDENT APPROVAL ON PAGE 83 DATED 28/02/2022 AND THE HMFBNP’S DIRECTIVE ON FILE NO: FMF/CMD/FINANCE/0001/V/TIII/AT PAGE 84 DATED 22/07/2022 WITH THE FOLLOWING BANK DETAILS: ACCOUNT NAME: FIDELITY BANK PLC; ACCOUNT NAME: KAURA MOTORS NIGERIA LIMITED; ACCOUNT NUMBER: 401 0638472; TIN NO; 004037210001; SORT CODE: 0701 10409; BRANCH: AL! Furthermore, more investigation revealed the directors and owners of the car company are members of the National Assembly and other key members of the Buhari-led administration.

Sharing the documents on his Twitter page, Hundeyin wrote: “I’ve got hold of a budget office document showing @MBuhari approving N1.4 billion to buy vehicles for the government of Niger Republic.

“I went ahead to confirm the account details provided in the document and sure enough it checks out. Why is @MBuhari’s government purchasing vehicles for a foreign government? Is this an extension of the same nonsensical decision-making that saw it prioritise a railway to Maradi?

“President @MBuhari over to you please. Kindly explain why you are expending scarce Nigerian public sector resources on your Nigerièn cousins, and in such a brazen manner that you dare to let it appear on official Budget Office documentation. Nigeria is waiting.”

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari had also approved a contract of $1.96 billion for the construction of a railway from Kano to Niger Republic.

When questioned about the controversial project, Buhari said his decision to build rail lines from Kano to Niger was to allow his family members easily have access to Nigeria.
