EFCC Arrests 94 Internet Fraudsters During ‘Yahoo Boys’ Party At Popular Night Club In Oyo
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested not less than 94 suspected internet fraudsters during ‘Yahoo Boys’ party at a popular nightclub, Club Secret Underground, located along the Ibadan-Iwo expressway in Oyo State.
In a statement made available to the public, the EFCC stated that a discreet operation on the club had earlier been carried out to ascertain the authenticity of the intelligence, after which the raid was carried out in the early hours of Monday.
“The wee-hour operation was sequel to an intelligence report hinting that the suspected internet fraudsters were organising a night party on Sunday, October 13, 2019, during which some of them intended to celebrate their loots,” EFCC said.
Items recovered from the suspects include 19 exotic cars, laptops, scores of sophisticated mobile phones and other items.
The suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation; as the suspects would be prosecuted upon the completion of the investigation.
The arrest could be reported as the most massive burst ever recorded by the agency since it intensified the crackdown on the Internet scammers.
Meanwhile, the sum of N65,548,000 million was recovered by the EFCC during a search conducted in Zamfara office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The money is suspected to be 40% illegally deducted on funds released to the INEC office in Zamfara, to cater for the rent of canopies, tables and chairs, as well as funds for Registration Area Center (RAC) and movement of men and materials to polling units, by the HOD Accounts & Cashier.
