Emir Sanusi Finally Accepts Governor Ganduje’s Appointment As Head Of Kano Chiefs

Sanusi has accepted his appointment as the chairman Kano state council of chiefs.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has confirmed the acceptance of his appointment as the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.

Sanusi acceptance was conveyed after the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, gave him a two-day ultimatum to either accept or reject the appointment which was offered to him in a leter dated 9th of December, 2019.

In a letter, signed on behalf of the Kano Emirate Council by its acting Secretary, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, dated December 19, 2019, Emir Sanusi accepted the appointment.

“Kindly inform His Excellency that His Highness, Sarkin Kano, has not rejected his appointment as chairman, Kano State Council of Chiefs,” the letter reads.

“His Highness, who has accepted the appointment, request further directives from His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“For clarity, this directive may include the appointment of other members of the council, the appointment of staff of the council, provision of accommodation for the secretariat and other logistics, so as to make the council operational.”

The council of chiefs comprise of all the five emirates in the state and other members of the traditional council.

Governor Gandjue fell out with the Emir Sanusi shortly before the 2019 elections and there have been moves to reduce the influence of the Emir over allegations that the monarch worked against Ganduje’s reelection.

The governor on Thursday hinted that he had received a letter from a coalition of 35 civil society groups urging him to remove the Emir of Kano if he failed to submit himself to the laws of the state.
