The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have disclosed that herdsmen in other parts of the country have indicated interest to relocate to the Kano State RUGA settlement.
MACBAN Secretary in Kano State, Zubairu Ibrahim, who disclosed this to Vanguard, said that herdsmen from five states of the federation have already relocated to Kano.
He said: “We have some Fulani herdsmen from Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Jigawa who are now in Kano,” Ibrahim was quoted saying.
“The governor has invited anyone willing to stay in the RUGA settlement to come. If they come and they are good people, nothing will stop us from receiving them.
“All they need to do is to follow the rules and regulations of government. They should go for grazing in the afternoon and not at night. Nothing can stop them from coming if they are interested.
“Since the governor of Ondo State has gone to the media to say that they (herdsmen) should vacate the area, instead of staying there they should leave. they should leave so that something bad does not happen to them and their property. They should just vacate the area for their safety.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had recently called on the Federal Government to restrict the movement of herders and cattle from the North to other part of Nigeria.
Ganduje made this call in the wake of ethnic tensions across the country, especially in the South-West, which many have attributed to criminal Fulani herdsmen.
Governor Rotimi Akeredelu of Ondo State recently issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herders, to quit the state forest reserve ober the rising cases of insecurity in the state.
Also, a Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, more popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued an ultimatum to Fulanis to leave Oyo state or face severe consequences.
