BREAKING: ASUU Extends Warning Strike By Two Months

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced the extension of its ongoing warning strike by another two months.

ASUU Extents Strike For 2 Months

KanyiDaily recalls that ASUU had embarked on a one-month warning strike on February 14, over the failure of the federal government to meet its demands.

A wide range of issues for which ASUU members are demanding resolutions for include: non-implementation of the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with it; salary shortfall caused by the introduction of IPPIS; revitalization of universities across the country, among others.

The union had on Sunday slammed the Government over its recent proclamation that University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) has failed the integrity test.

According to The Guardian, ASUU made the decision to extend the industrial action after the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Sunday night.

An ASUU official, Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad Danbazau, who confirmed the report, said the decision to extend the strike was to allow the union and government to reach an agreement in other to avoid any other issues in the future.

Danbazau added that the two months wes enough for the government to do the right thing on the lingering issues.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige had claimed that the Federal Government lacked the money (N1.1 trillion) to meet  ASUU’s demand.
