The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to the recent deadly attack by terrorists on an Abuja-Kaduna train around Kateri-Rijana area of Kaduna State.
KanyiDaily had reported how a train heading from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by terrorists who opened fire on over 970 passengers on board, killing some and whisking away unspecified number of people on Monday night, March 28.
Although the exact number of casualties is not yet known, a medical doctor identified as Chinelo Megafo has been confirmed as one of those killed in the attack.
Taking to his Twitter page on Tuesday, Amaechi said he was devastated and heartbroken over what he saw at the scene of the attack. He condoled with the families of those who lost loved ones in the attack.
The minster said the agencies that need to grant approvals for the monitoring of the rail lines in Kaduna and the across the country should do so to forestall these types of attacks.
He wrote, “I am devastated, heartbroken by what I saw on a visit to the site of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack in company of the Minister of State for Transportation, Sen. Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki and the Minister for Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this dastardly attack and their families.
“Again, I call on all agencies that need to give approvals for the surveillance equipment and sensors for effective monitoring of the rail tracks to do so quickly, to forestall attacks like this.”
KanyiDaily had reported that a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Ibrahim Wakkala was also shot during the deadly attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train.
