CAN Reacts To Bandits’ Plans To Marry 21-Year-Old Victim Of Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to reports that a top commander of bandits is planning to marry Azurfa Lois John, a 21-year-old victim of the Kaduna-Abuja train attack.

CAN Calls For Rescue Of Azurfa Lois John

KanyiDaily had reported how a train heading from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by terrorists who killed nine of the passengers and abducted 60 of them on March 28.

No fewer than 30 of the victims have reportedly been released in batches after the payment of N100m ransom each to the terrorists.

Last Friday, a negotiator who has secured the release of some of the train attack victims, Tukur Mamu raised the alarm that a terrorist leader wanted to marry a Christian victim, Azurfa Lois.

Mamu called on the federal government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to facilitate the release of Azurfa before the marriage goes through, as it was done in the case of Leah Sharibu, a Dapchi schoolgirl abducted in 2018.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday night, CAN said it was comforted by the reality that the federal government has met all the demands of the bandits.

The association, however, called on security agencies to rescue Miss Azurfa Lois and all the remaining victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack who are still held in captivity.

CAN said, “We are mindful of the alarm raised by Mr Tukur Mamu, and the situation is worrisome.

“The demands of the terrorists who attacked and kidnapped the Abuja-Kaduna passengers are well known to the Federal Government and they are in the public domain.

“However, we are comforted by the reality that the presidency recently said the administration has met all the demands.

“So, we call on the security agencies to rise to the occasion and rescue Miss Azurfa Lois and all the remaining travelers still held in captivity.

“Our faith in God to rescue the country from the current security challenges remains unwavering. We, therefore, call on Nigerians to keep on praying for enduring peace and security in our nation.”

KanyiDaily recalls that last year, the Convener of the US-Nigeria Law Group, Emmanuel Ogebe, revealed that Leah Sharibu delivered her two children in 2020 after she was married off to a top Boko Haram commander.
