It was gathered that the 65-year-old vice president had left Gambia about three weeks ago to seek medical treatment. He is the first Gambian vice president to die in office.

Badara Joof was appointed vice president of the West African country in 2022. He had previously served as education minister.

KanyiDaily had also reported how Mali’s former President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who was ousted in a military coup in 2020, died in his home at the age of 76.
