Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in Sokoto Governorship Appeal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment in the appeal brought forth by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Saidu Umar, challenging the election of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu

After hearing arguments from the involved parties, the five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, postponed the judgment on the matter.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, had affirmed Aliyu’s election.

Umar and the PDP raised concerns about Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, being ineligible for the governorship poll.
They further alleged that the election not only experienced irregularities but also failed to adhere substantially to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

Despite their efforts, the Court of Appeal rejected their appeal, deeming it lacking in merit.

Dissatisfied with this outcome, Umar and the PDP proceeded to approach the apex Court
