The former president had his accounts suspended in 2021 after praising supporters involved in the storming of the US Capitol on January 6th.
Although reinstated in 2023, Trump’s accounts were subject to extra monitoring until now, according to a recent blog post by the social media giant.
Meta announced the removal of all the remaining restrictions on Friday, July 12, citing a commitment to political expression and the principle that presidential nominees should have an equal platform.
The social media giant emphasized that all US presidential candidates, including Trump, must adhere to community standards preventing hate speech and incitement to violence.
“In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis.
“With the party conventions taking place shortly, including the Republican convention next week, the candidates for President of the United States will soon be formally nominated,” Meta’s global affairs president Nick Clegg said in a statement.
The companyadded that US presidential candidates “remain subject to the same Community Standards as all Facebook and Instagram users, including those policies designed to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence.”
Since his reinstatement, Trump’s Facebook and Instagram pages have largely focused on campaign updates and memes, often targeting his rival, President Joe Biden.
KanyiDaily recalls that Billionaire Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after purchasing the company in 2022. However, the former president has only posted once since then.
In response to his initial suspension from major platforms, Donald Trump launched his own social media platform, Truth Social, in 2022.
