Donald Trump was sworn in for a historic second term on Monday after taking the oath as the 47th president of the United States.
Standing beneath the grand Rotunda of the US Capitol, Trump raised one hand and placed the other on a Bible gifted by his mother as he solemnly took the oath of office.
Moments earlier, JD Vance, elected alongside Trump in November 2924, was also sworn in as vice president.
Vance, 39, is considered a leading figure in the populist movement that gained prominence during Trump’s presidency. He fully supports Trump’s isolationist and anti-immigration “America First” policies.
In his inauguration speech, Donald Trump vowed to issue immediate executive orders targeting immigration and cultural issues, marking the start of what he called “America’s golden age.”
Speaking before four former US presidents, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins now.”
“We will be the envy of every nation. I will very simply put America first. Our sovereignty will be claimed, and the chaos of justice will be rebalanced. America’s decline is over.”
Trump also referenced past assassination attempts against him and promised that his administration would uphold the nation’s faith in God.
Earlier in the day, Trump and outgoing President Joe Biden traveled together to the Capitol in a motorcade.
This marked a shift from 2021, when Trump refused to attend Biden’s inauguration.
Before the ceremony, the two leaders and their spouses gathered for a traditional tea at the White House. Welcoming Trump, Biden reportedly said, “Welcome home.”
The inauguration ceremony, held indoors due to freezing temperatures, was a scaled-down affair compared to previous years.
Former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton attended, along with their spouses, except for Michelle Obama, who notably skipped the event.
This time, Donald Trump was surrounded by some of America’s wealthiest and most influential figures.
Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Sundar Pichai were among the prominent attendees seated near Trump’s family and cabinet members.
Musk, who contributed $250 million to Trump’s campaign and is known for his far-right stances on social media, is expected to play a key role in cost-cutting efforts in the new administration.
Trump’s return to power is a historical comeback, cementing his influence over modern American politics and the conservative movement.
KanyiDaily recalls that Pope Francis has criticized Donald Trump’s proposed mass deportation plans, calling them a “disgrace” and emphasizing the harm they could cause to vulnerable migrants.
