Police Redeploy Abuja DPO Seen Slapping Man In Viral Video

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division after a video showing him slapping a young man.

The video, which circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, showed the officer assaulting the man and then forcing him into a patrol vehicle.

The incident sparked outrage among Nigerians, who described the officer’s actions as unprofessional and abusive.

In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, condemned the officer’s behavior, calling it “unprofessional and unacceptable.”

According to the statement, the commissioner emphasized that such conduct goes against the ethics and discipline expected of police officers.

He ordered the officer’s immediate redeployment to the command headquarters while an investigation into the incident continues.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the officer’s actions, which fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” Adeh said.

He also warned all divisional officers and their subordinates to maintain professionalism, courtesy, and respect in the line of duty.

“Consequently, the officer has been redeployed, and the situation is currently under investigation,” she said.

According to the statement, the commissioner warned all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to remain professional and courteous while performing their duties, stressing that any act of misconduct or abuse of power would attract strict disciplinary action.

“While administrative disciplinary steps are being taken, CP Dantawaye reminds all DPOs and their subordinates that they must remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.

“He warns that any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions,” the statement added.

CP Dantawaye urged residents to cooperate with the police and maintain mutual respect to enhance security and community policing in the FCT.

“Mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community policing and public safety,” the CP stated.
