The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced that it will restart its total and indefinite strike on January 12, 2026.

The NARD had earlier warned that hospitals across the country could be shut down again because the Federal Government has not carried out the agreement it signed with the association.

In a statement posted on X and signed by its president, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, NARD said the decision was reached during an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council held on Friday.

The doctors explained that the strike is meant to push the government to meet their outstanding demands.

NARD also said there will be nationwide protests in different hospitals across the country over unresolved welfare issues affecting doctors.

According to the association, the strike will begin at 12:00 a.m. on January 12, 2026, if the government does not meet their minimum demands before then.

They said the action has become necessary because deadlines for implementing the earlier Memorandum of Understanding were ignored.

As part of preparations, leaders of all 91 NARD branches have been directed to hold meetings in their hospitals and address the press afterward.

“The National Officers’ Committee appreciates your patience, resilience, and continued support in our collective struggle for doctors’ welfare.

“Following the E-NEC meeting, the following resolutions were reached: NEC resolved to resume TICS 2.0, tagged ‘No Implementation, No Going Back,’ with effect from January 12, 2026, by 12:00 a.m.

“NEC has also mandated every centre president from the 91 centres to hold a congress meeting and, at the end, address the media,” it said.

The association said it plans to hold 91 press briefings in one week to draw national attention to doctors’ welfare concerns.

“We will then resume TICS 2.0 on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. NEC has also directed centre-based protests from January 12 to 16, 2026.

“After the centre-based protests, regional protests at the caucus leaders’ level shall be carried out.

“NEC has also directed a national protest to be organised by the NARD NOC,” it stated.

NARD stressed that the strike will only be called off after the government fully implements its key demands.

KanyiDaily recalls that the earlier strike was suspended on November 29 after 29 days when the government signed an MoU promising to act within four weeks.
