A senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University, formerly Kogi State University, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died during an alleged sexual encounter with a female student at a hotel.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and was later reported to the police by the hotel manager.
The student involved, 22-year-old Glory Ojochegbe Samuel, is a 200-level Social Studies Education student at the university.
According to reports, Dr. Ibikunle had consumed several energy drinks after checking into the hotel with the student, and during the encounter, he suddenly collapsed.
The student reportedly rushed to the reception for help, and hotel staff contacted the police. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Dr. Ibikunle, who was married with children, had a reputation for being very strict, with allegations of sexually exploiting female students for grades.
Kogi police spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident, saying the student has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning and possible prosecution.
Aya said: “The report was received on July 16, but the unfortunate incident happened on July 15, 2025. It was the manager of the hotel (name not disclosed), named Moses Friday, who came to the police station at Anyigba and reported about his guest, the lecturer who had lodged in their facility with a 22-year-old 200-level student, 22 years old, named Gloria Samuel.
“According to the manager, the girl on that fateful day rushed to the reception and complained that the lecturer took her to the hotel, and after they had sex, the man slumped.
“So the manager rushed and informed the DPO, and the DPO rushed to the scene, and they moved the man to the hospital. On arrival, a doctor on duty confirmed the lecturer’s death.
“So the girl in question has been transferred from Anyigba Police Division to the State CID for further investigation and prosecution. An autopsy has been conducted, but right now I don’t know whether the result of the autopsy is out because I haven’t spoken with the SCID.”
In a statement, the university’s registrar, Yahaya Alilu, described the situation as tragic and said the institution is fully cooperating with authorities to uncover the full details.
Alilu urged the public to avoid spreading rumors or unverified claims, especially ones that drag innocent students into the matter.
He also clarified that another student, Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat, whose name had been mentioned in connection with the incident, has no involvement in the case and should not be linked to it.
“His sudden demise in company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (24GE2034) of the same department is a tragic and disturbing occurrence that understandably generated public concern and interest,” the statement reads.
“The university wishes to state that the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle is currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
“We therefore kindly urge the public and the media to refrain from speculations or drawing premature conclusions until the facts are fully established.
“We are also aware of some unverified reports linking the names of other students including Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat of the Department of Educational Administration and planning, to the incident.
“The university firmly dissociates Miss Bello and other students from the matter and cautions against the spread of unfounded information that may harm the reputation of innocent persons.”
