Cross Rivers Journalist, Agba Jalingo Regains Freedom After Five Months In Detection

The publisher of Cross River Watch, Agba Jalingo has been released from prison custody after meeting his bail conditions.

KanyiDaily recalls that a Federal High Court in Calabar, had admitted Agba Jalingo to bail in the sum of N10million and one surety.

Following the perfecting the bail conditions, Mr Jalingo was freed on Monday, February, 17, 2020, after spending five months (174 days) in detention.

KanyiDaily had reported that Jalingo was arrested after publishing a report on his news platform, on how Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River allegedly approved and diverted N500 million meant for the state’s microfinance bank.

He was subsequently arraigned for treason and attempting to overthrow the state government due to the highly critical articles he published.

The court, which had earlier rejected his bail applications twice, subsequently granted him bail last week.
