The arrest was made during a joint operation involving the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Panvel, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bengaluru, and the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) in Kurla, Mumbai.
Authorities launched the operation after the NCB received a tip-off about an attempt to smuggle drugs on the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express train, which was expected to arrive at Panvel station on Friday, July 19, 2025.
A team was quickly assembled and stationed at platform number 7, where they identified the suspect, Etumudon Doris, who was traveling with a baby she claimed was her child.
During questioning, she admitted to carrying drugs, and authorities then escorted her to the RPF post, where they found two rectangular black packages labeled “VINTAGE” in her multicolored travel bag.
Tests confirmed the packages contained cocaine, weighing a total of 2.002 kg. Authorities also found 1.488 kg of methamphetamine in her possession.
Murari Lal, a junior intelligence officer from the NCB in Bengaluru, took custody of the seized drugs.
Doris has been charged, and further investigations are ongoing.
