The Federal Government has officially begun the recruitment of Nigerians for 774,000 jobs under the Special Public Works (SPW) programme.

KanyiDaily recalls that the National Assembly had suspended the recruitment following a disagreement between them and the Minister of State for Employment, Labour and Productivity, Mr Festus Keyamo.

However, in a statement on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, the Special Public Works  announced the take-off of the recruitment process across the country.

The statement added that the State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work. It reads:

“The Special Public Works Programme of the Federal Government has kicked off nationwide. The State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work. Find the names and contact details of members of your State’s Committee here: https://specialpublicworks.gov.ng/site/ #NigeriaSPW”

President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the programme, as part of the fiscal stimulus measures to cope with the COVID-19 outbreak and will see 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas engaged.

The programme is meant to engage some Nigerians in carrying out public services such as street sweeping, waste disposal, road maintenance, and other menial jobs.

The Special Public Works programme will last for a period of three months, and those employed would be paid a stipend of N20,000 monthly.
