Akeredolu Cancels Democracy Day Celebration In Ondo Due To Owo Church Attack

Governor Akeredolu said the cancellation was to allow Ondo people mourn the deceased.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has announced the cancellation of this year’s Democracy Day celebration in the state in honour of those who lost their lives during a terrorist attack at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo.

KanyiDaily had reported how some gunmen stormed the church on Sunday and killed over 40 worshipers, while 127 others sustained gunshot injuries.

In a post shared on his Twitter handle on Saturday, Governor Akeredolu said Ondo would be suspending the June 12 celebration in order to allow people of the state to mourn the deceased.

“In honour of the victims of the terror attack at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the Ondo State Government has canceled this year’s June 12 celebration.

“The cancelation is to enable the people of Ondo State mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack,” Akeredolu tweeted on Saturday.

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had declared seven days mourning for the victims, ordered all public buildings, facilities, and official residences in the State to fly flags at half-mast for seven days.
