2023: Winners Of APC Guber Primaries In Abia, Delta, Yobe, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Others

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is holding its governorship primaries across states in the country, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

2023: Winners Of APC Guber Primaries In Abia, Delta, Yobe, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Others

Ikechi Emenike Abia

In Abia State, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Development Resources Limited, Ikechi Emenike emerged as the winner polling 672 votes to defeat others in the race.

Ahead of the primaries, Emenike was jostling for the APC’s governorship ticket in the state with six other aspirants.

However, three of the aspirants walked out of the venue of the primaries on Thursday. They based their walkout on the decision to use indirect process for the primary.

In his acceptance speech, Emenike said he has received the mandate given to him by his party with every sense of responsibility.

He urged all the party members not to relent, but to do their best for the party to win the governorship election in the 2023 general elections.

Ovie Omo-Agege Delta

The Deputy Senate President, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege will represent the APC as the governorship candidate for Delta state.

Omo-Agege, who polled a total of 1,190 votes, was returned unopposed by a total of 1,235 accredited delegates of the party at the APC governorship primaries held on Thursday in Asaba.

The event which was held at the premises of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Asaba, saw the deputy senate president emerge as the sole aspirant in the primaries.

On his victory, Omo-Agege, expressed joy over the smooth conduct of the primaries and thanked his supporters and the entire APC family in Delta.

Abdullahi Sule Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule also received the nod of delegates of the APC to run for a second term in office in the state.

Sule was declared the winner by the Chairman of the State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Ahmed Ibeto, after polling 698 votes to beat his contender, Fatma Abdullahi, who polled three votes.

Ahmed Ibeto, chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee, said some 701 delegates participated in the elections which took place at the City Hall in Lafia.

Speaking after the declaration, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to all the delegates who voted for him and promised to provide better leadership for residents of the state if he is reelected in 2023.

He commended the female aspirant for having the courage to contest the governorship primary election and urged other women in the state to follow suit by contesting for various positions in the 2027 elections.

Mai Mala Buni Yobe

Former national caretaker of the APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni, came up trumps in Yobe as he seeks re-election for a second term in office.

Buni was declared the winner of the primary after scoring 805 out of the total votes of 890 during the PAC primaries held at an event centre in Damaturu.

Announcing the result, the returning officer, Umar Kareto said Buni was the sole candidate and was elected as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

Kareto said 890 delegates were accredited, 825 votes were cast, 805 votes were valid, while 20 were invalid.

In his acceptance speech, Buni thanked the delegates and his party for finding him worthy of the ticket for the second time.

Bello Matawalle Zamfara

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle emerged as the governorship candidate for a second term after polling 733 votes in the primary election.

The Chairman Electoral Committee for the APC governorship primary election in the state, Babagana Tijani declared Matawalle as the winner of the APC primary election.

Tijani said the governor secured the ticket for his second term bid unopposed as other aspirants in the race withdrew from the contest as a result of the consensus arrangement which the APC in Zamfara State adopted as the mode of the exercise.

He said that Matawalle ran unopposed and secured the votes of 733 out of 735 delegates drawn from the 147 wards of 14 LGAs of the state.

Inuwa Yahaya Gombe

In Gombe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, emerged as the APC flag bearer for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State.

Yahaya polled 563 votes through voice affirmation, while seven delegates were said to have been unable to make it to the venue of the election.

The Chairman APC Governorship Primary Election Committee in charge of Gombe State, Dr. Danjuma Dabo presided over the exercise in the presence of INEC officials led by the Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Ibrahim.

In his remarks, the Gombe governor thanked the delegates for finding him worthy to be the party’s flag-bearer for the 2023 governorship election.

Nasiru Idris Kebbi

The President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nasiru Idris has been declared as the APC governorship candidate for Kebbi state.

Idris was declared the winner by the returning officer, Idris Yahuza, after defeating the senate leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, by scoring 1,055 votes out of the 1,090 votes cast.

While Abdullahi secured no vote, Abubakar Gari-Malam, polled the remaining 35 votes.

In his victory speech, the NUT president commended APC stakeholders for the smooth conduct of the exercise and also thanked his supporters.

KanyiDaily had also reported that Francis Nwifuru and Uche Nnaji won the APC governorship primaries in Ebonyi and Enugu respectively.
