Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the Anambra South senatorial by-election held on Saturday.

The result was announced on Sunday by Frank Ojiako, the Returning Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Emmanuel Nwachukwu secured 90,408 votes, far ahead of his main rival, Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who finished with 19,847 votes.

Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 2,889 votes.

Declaring the outcome, Frank Ojiako said Nwachukwu met all legal requirements and was duly elected.

“I hereby make the declaration that Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Ojiako said.

The election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left after the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in June 2024.

KanyiDaily recalls that Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in London at the age of 52, had been re-elected in 2023 under the Young Progressives Party (YPP) before later defecting to the APC.
