The Anambra chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly appealed to Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, to return to the party.
Peter Obi had left the PDP for the Labour Party after concluding he had little chance of securing the PDP presidential ticket during the 2023 general election.
The appeal came after an expanded meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday, where members reviewed the party’s current situation and discussed future plans.
In a statement signed by the state chairman, Chidi Chidebe, the party cautioned against forming alliances with political groups that don’t share similar values, saying such coalitions are unlikely to succeed.
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria,” he said.
The PDP also urged voters in Anambra to support its candidates, Mr Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr Francis Okeke, in the upcoming elections.
The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible and transparent voting process.
Chidebe encouraged residents to continue backing the PDP as they’ve done in the past and turn out in large numbers on election day.
“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” he said.
He also announced the unanimous selection of Chief Clems Ezike to occupy the vacant National Ex-Officio position representing Anambra.
He called on the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to acknowledge and forward the nomination to the national leadership.
Chidebe further praised the recent National Executive Committee meeting held on May 27, expressing confidence in the efforts to resolve the party’s internal issues.
KanyiDaily recalls that PDP’s internal conflict recently took a more serious turn on Sunday after Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced his withdrawal from all reconciliation efforts previously agreed upon by the party.
