Peter Obi New Party

KanyiDaily recalls that Peter Obi, who is seeking to contest the 2023 presidency, had recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the party’s primary election.

In his resignation letter dated May 24, 2022, Obi said the recent developments within the PDP make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

There have been speculations that the presidential hopeful had concluded plans to join the NNPP and run a joint ticket with Kwankwaso, who is also the presidential aspirant of the party.

Speaking during a chat with Punch on Thursday, Doyin Okupe said that Obi will not be joining the NNPP as he would not be settling for the position of Vice-President in any party.

He said, “He (Obi) will not be joining the NNPP. You can quote me on this. He will not settle for the position of Vice-President in any party.”

When asked which party the former governor would be joining, Okupe said an announcement would be made on Friday morning.

It was gathered that the NNPP had already settled for Kwankwaso and was only willing to give Obi the Vice-Presidential ticket, an offer the former governor was said to have rejected.

Peter Obi was the running mate of PDP’s Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general election, but they would run against each other in the 2023 presidential race even though they have both tried to maintain a cordial relationship with each other.
