Court Remands BRT Driver, Andrew Nice In Prison Over Bamise Ayanwole’s Death

Andrew Nice was arraigned on five-count charge of alleged murder, rape, and interference with the deceased’s corpse.

A Magistrate Court in Lagos has remanded a driver of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle, Andrew Nice who was arrested by the police over the death of a 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwole.

KanyiDaily had reported how Bamise went missing after she boarded a BRT bus with number 240257 from Chevron Estate in Ajah, which was going to Oshodi at about 7 p.m on Saturday, February 26.

During the journey, the fashion designer was said to have contacted one of her colleagues at work, Felicia Omolara, to inform her that she was feeling uneasy about the conduct of the driver.

Bamise also sent a video to her friend showing how dark it was in the bus and said, “There are three men and one woman in the bus. The woman is sitting at the back. That’s the number of the bus in case. Please pray for me.’’

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed on Monday that Bamise’s corpse was found on Carter bridge at Ogogoro community, Lagos Island.

Ajisebutu stated that the bus driver, who had been on the run when the news broke, was arrested by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ogun state.

Andrew Nice Arraigned Over Bamise Ayanwole’s Death

On Friday, March 11, the police arraigned the 47-year-old suspect on a four-count charge of alleged murder, rape, and interference with the deceased’s corpse.

“That you Andrew Nice Ominnikoron ‘M’ and others still at large, on the 26 day of February, 2022 at about 2000hrs, along Ajah – Oshodi Expressway Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, whilst on duty as a BRT driver within metropolis with BRT bus code number 257 did, forcefully had sexual intercourse with Late Ayanwole Oluwabamise ‘F’ Aged 22yrs (Now Deceased) and thereafter, pushed her out of the moving BRT Bus, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015,” the charge sheet reads in part.

“That you Andrew Nice Ominnikoron ‘M’ and others still at large, on the 26th day of February, 2022 at about 2000hrs, along Ajah – Oshodi Expressway Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, whilst on duty as a BRT driver within metropolis with BRT bus code number 257 did, improperly or indecently interferes with the corpse of Late Ayanwole Oluwabamise ‘F’ by dumping the deceased along the express concrete pavement, and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 165 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The magistrate, O.A Salawu remand request of the police and ordered that the suspect be held at the Ikoyi correctional centre. The case was adjourned to April 11.

KanyiDaily recalls that while being paraded by the police, Andrew Nice had denied abducting Bamise, claiming they were attacked by three gunmen who boarded the bus with the now-deceased lady during the trip.

However, a video captured after he was arrested showed the moment Andrew was confessing to having carnal knowledge of Bamise before she threw herself out of the moving bus because of the “dirty acts” he had done.
