Erelu Okin Sentenced To Jail
KanyiDaily recalls that Lagos State Government had ordered an investigation into a video showing kegs of petrol handed out to guests as souvenirs at Erelu Okin’s party at Havilah Events Centre in Oniru, Victoria Island, on March 4.
On March 14, Erelu Okin was arraigned on a four-count charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, endangering human life by distributing combustible matter in a public gathering.
Although she pleaded not guilty upon arraignment, she later entered a guilty plea on Thursday, March 24, when the case came up for hearing.
Delivering judgment on Friday, the Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare convicted the defendant on all three counts and sentenced her to 27 months imprisonment.
On count one, he sentenced Pearl to three months imprisonment with an option of N15,000 fine, and one year imprisonment or N500,000 fine on the second count.
The chief magistrate also sentenced the socialite to another one year imprisonment and gave the option of N500,000 fine on the third count.
This is coming at a time Nigerians are gasping in petrol scarcity, despite the Federal Government’s many promises that sufficient fuel has been released to oil marketers.
