President Of Nigeria’s Shari’ah Council, Sheikh Hadiyatullah Is Dead

Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Hadiyatullah, the President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), has died.

The news was announced late Monday, April 28, by Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, in a statement he personally signed.

While the announcement didn’t give specific details about the time or place of Sheikh Hadiyatullah’s death, it described his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s Muslim community.

Sheikh Hadiyatullah, originally from Iwo in Osun State—an area known for its deep Islamic roots—was widely respected as a religious scholar and jurist.

He played a key role in promoting Shari’ah law within Nigeria’s legal system and was also an advocate for unity and dialogue between different religious groups.

As the leader of the SCSN, he guided the Muslim community through times of both challenge and change, gaining respect for his thoughtful leadership and calm, principled stance.

He began his religious education in Iwo and later studied abroad, becoming well-versed in Islamic law.

In his tribute, Sheikh Molaasan offered prayers for Allah’s mercy on Sheikh Hadiyatullah’s soul and asked that he be granted a place in Jannatul Firdaus, the highest level of paradise in Islam.
